Cherokee County Board of Commissioners

K. Scott Gordon (Scott), a native of western North Carolina (Weaverville), is an honor graduate of the University of North Carolina (Charlotte) where he earned two degrees:  a Bachelor of Arts (’89) and a Bachelor of Architecture (’91).  Scott came to Georgia after graduation to be near his father and mother who were transferred by GTE (Verizon) in 1987 and has lived in Cherokee County for over 25 years.  A professional architect, registered in multiple states (including Georgia), Scott is a Principal Architect with Clark Patterson Lee Design Professionals and leads one of the firm’s two Georgia offices located in downtown Woodstock.

Scott’s professional resume includes planning and design leadership for many notable projects in the county such as the Chattahoochee Technical College Campus in Canton, the Cherokee County Senior Services Center, the Taylor Randahl Memorial at Rope Mill Park and the Northside Hospital Cherokee Amphitheater in downtown Woodstock.  Once a volunteer fireman himself, Scott was also a member of the team that master planned the highly successful Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services Training Center in Holly Springs. Regional projects include Suwanee City Hall, the first LEED certified city hall in Georgia and the Richmond County Sheriff’s Administration Office in Augusta, the first LEED certified sheriff’s office in Georgia.  Scott is a past board member of the Construction Management Association of America, South Atlantic Chapter and a member of the American Institute of Architects, and recipient of the Dorothy Spence Citizen Architect Award by AIA Atlanta, which honors AIA members who engage in their community from a design perspective, seeing communities as “all connected”.

Scott has a long history of involvement in his communities.   He was one of the founding members of The Southern-Off Road Bicycle Association’s (SORBA) Woodstock Chapter, who partnered with Cherokee County and US Army Corps of Engineers to deliver the highly successful Mountain Bike Trail System at Blankets Creek on Lake Allatoona off Sixes Road.  Through his experience at the Chapter level, Gordon was elected as the first president of SORBA at the regional level when the organization transitioned from an executive director based hierarchy in the mid 2000’s.  Scott was also a citizen appointee to both the Cherokee County Parks and Recreation Master Plan Steering Committee and the City of Woodstock’s Greenprints Plan Steering Committee. He was a founding board member of the Greenprints Alliance, a non-profit citizens group established to promote and implement the City of Woodstock’s Greenprints Plan.  Prior to coming on to the county commission, Scott served for four years as the late councilwoman Tessa Basford’s appointment to the planning commission for Ward 6 in the City of Woodstock; he is a member of the Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce and is a graduate of the Leadership Cherokee Class of 2011.

Scott has made a career of providing leadership to communities, institutions and businesses throughout State of Georgia and the nation, but still makes time to spend with his wife of over 25 years, Lynell, and their two daughters.  Residents of the Deer Run Subdivision in Towne Lake in Woodstock, Scott and his family enjoy camping, mountain biking, shooting sports and the beach, although they admit that much of their free time revolves around school activities at Carmel Elementary and Woodstock High School or at church, were they are active members of Woodstock First Baptist.
