Rental Assistance Options in Cherokee County

Posted By: CDBG on Mar-09-2021 @ 09:39 am

Cherokee County was awarded supplemental Community Development Block Grant (CDBG] funds through the CARES Act that was signed into law in March 2020 with two separate allocations of CDBG-CV funds.  The County awarded a community partner, MUST Ministries, Inc. - Cherokee, supplemental funds to administer an emergency assistance program.

Interested renters can apply for rent and utility relief for up to six months, and may contact MUST's call center at (770) 790-3926 or (770) 790-3927. Learn more about their program by calling the Canton Office at (770) 479-5397 or visiting their website at MUST Ministries - Emergency Assistance.  This program is not the same as the Emergency Rental Assistance Program [ERAP] offered by the State of Georgia through the Department of Community Affairs and may have different qualification requirements.

The County has partnered with MUST Ministries Inc. to administer its own Emergency Rental Assistance Program funded by the US Treasury.  You may apply to the assistance program through an online portal on MUST's website at Treasury-Funded Emergency Rental Assistance.  Or, you may contact MUST at one of the numbers listed above.  Applicants who have received assistance with the supplemental CDBG funds are eligible for ERAP funds for a total of 12 months of assistance between the two assistance programs.  As with the supplemental funds, ERAP funds provide for assistance with past due utilities as well.  Landlords and utililities providers are paid directly rather the renter.
