RE: Suspension of Mailed Discovery
As you are probably already aware, Georgia is experiencing some of the worst mail delays ever witnessed. The U.S. Postmaster General, Louis DeJoy, is in the process of consolidating 60 mail processing facilities across the country. This plan is called “Delivering for America,” but unfortunately, the implementation is causing significant postal delays. Additionally, many letters and packages are being lost and/or misrouted.
As a direct result of these circumstances, my office has had numerous reports of discovery not being received in a timely fashion or—even worse—not received at all. Due to this unfortunate turn of events, I have decided to temporarily suspend my office’s practice of mailing media discovery using the US Postal Service. We will reassess the situation in six to eight weeks and reimplement mailing of discovery after the Postal Service has resolved their current challenges. In the meantime, media discovery will be available for pick up in our front office or, if you prefer, you can schedule an appointment to come in and view the discovery at your convenience.
We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your understanding. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me directly.
Thank you for your patience and understanding.
Sincerely,
Todd Hayes,
Solicitor-General
Cherokee County
