JUDICIAL ORDERS AND UPDATES

Posted By: Office of the District Attorney on Mar-16-2020 @ 12:19 pm

JURY TRIALS CANCELLED THROUGH JUNE

Jury trials scheduled for the weeks of MARCH 23, MARCH 30, APRIL 27, MAY 18, JUNE 15, and JUNE 22 have been cancelled, per Cherokee County Superior Court Judicial Emergency Orders dated March 13, March 27, April 7, and May 12.

ORDER OF PUBLIC ACCESS

Cherokee County Superior Court issued an Order of Public Access on March 26 to outline new procedures for entering the Frank C. Mills III Justice Center. This order stipulates that a Cherokee Sheriff’s Office deputy will scan the temperature of all individuals prior to entering the courthouse. If a person is exhibiting a fever, he or she will be escorted outside and instructed on how to conduct judicial business via e-filing, video/teleconferencing, or other methods.

Issued on May 12, the Amended Judicial Order of Public Access stipulates additional pre-screening for those wishing to enter the courthouse, in addition to requiring individuals to wear face masks.

MAY 15 BOND RETURNABLE/ARRAIGNMENT

If you or your client has a bond returnable/arraignment date for May 15, the process for appearing has changed. We are mailing a letter with instructions to defendants and their attorneys. Defendants will be required to complete and submit a bond returnable form to the District Attorney's Office by June 12. Any defendants who fail to return the form by June 12 will be required to report in person at a later date to be determined. If you have questions, please contact your attorney or the District Attorney's Office at 770-479-1488.
