Small Wireless Facility

In October of 2019, SB 66 was enacted to implement the process of permitting small wireless facilites located in the county right of way.

These small wireless facilites can have placement as a collocation on an existing pole, or placement on a new pole or replacement pole. The process for permitting these small wireless facilities is as follows:

A pre-application meeting is required prior to submitting an application to the county for review. This will cover information such as location, number of small wireless facilities expected, and the timing of the construction for these facilities. To schedule this meeting please contact Shannon Griffith at [email protected] or 770-721-7812.

After the pre-application meeting, a completed application will need to be submitted to the county for review. The application has additional items listed that will need to be submited to deem the application complete. These items will include but are not limited to items like detailed construction drawings regarding proposed use within Right-of-way (ROW), structural reports by licensed professional engineer, if new pole, visual depiction or representaton of structure, etc. (see list on bottom of application)

This information will be turned into the Develoment Service Center and they will send it to the departments for review. Please note at this time these can not be submited via the Cityview portal.

Once reviewed, comments will be issued or an approval will be given. Once we have approved the plans, fees will need to be paid, and the permit will be issued.

Inspections will be required by our transportation department for location and our building department for the electrical hookup.

Small Wireless Facility permits are subject to permit fees as well as an annual rate. The fees are a one-time nonrecurring fee and the rate is a recurring annual fee due at the end of the year. These fees are based on the location of the small wire facility. (ie. collocation on an existing pole, replacement pole, or a new pole)

Annual fees are pro-rated the first year. Both fees are due at the time of permitting with the annual fee due at the end of the year for the following year.
