Juvenile Court

Juvenile Drug Treatment Court|Frequently Asked Questions

Back to Juvenile Drug Treatment Court

What is the referral process for the education track? A referral is made by an attorney, DA, CHINS coordinator or another member of the Court.  That referral is sent to the ADA who will then send the referral and incident report to the Delinquency Program Manager and Drug Court Coordinator who will make the final decision.  Once approved, the ADA will contact the Attorney of the Term who will contact the parent/guardian of the eligible participant.

What happens after the youth is accepted and fills out the paperwork with the parent/guardian? Once the paperwork is completed and returned to the Attorney of the Term, the youth will then pay for and attend the Drug Education Track.  Once the class is completed, the charges will be dismissed and the youth and attorney will be notified.

What is the referral process for Drug Court? The ADA makes a referral to include the incident report and the appropriate referral paperwork to the Drug Court Coordinator. At the next Drug Court Staffing, the coordinator will present the eligible participant to the team and will staff the appropriateness of the referral. If accepted, an adjudication date will be set.  At this hearing, the defense attorney will talk to their client about the Drug Court Program and if the client accepts, they will then meet with the Drug Court Coordinator to complete the paperwork and a referral is made to the treatment provider.
